Aston Villa Bus Thrown By Bricks After Winning At Burnley Cage

JAKARTA – The Aston Villa team bus was damaged after being attacked on the toll road following the away win against Burnley, Sunday, 28 August 2023 yesterday. Police confirmed that the glass front of the bus carrying the Aston Villa squad was damaged after being thrown with bricks.

They were thrown while on their way home from Turf Moor Stadium, right at the footbridge on the M65 in Lancashire. Luckily no one was injured in this incident.

"The incident occurred as vehicles were busy leaving the area after the football match between Burnley and Aston Villa," said Superintendent Melita Worswick of Lancashire Police.

"It's lucky the bricks didn't cause further damage, or cause anyone to be seriously injured or even killed," he added.

He further said that the police had started an investigation to find the perpetrators who were responsible for this incident.

"We are now determined to find the person responsible and ask anyone with information to contact us," he said.

"We cannot say at this time whether this was a targeted attack, but investigations are ongoing and this will form part of our investigation," he added.

Prior to this incident, Manchester City's Rico Lewis was hit by an object thrown from the crowd during the season opener at Turf Moor earlier this month.

Burnley Football Club said in a statement that they were "deeply saddened and disappointed to learn that the Aston Villa squad bus was attacked after their home game".

"After speaking with Villa, we are relieved to hear that no one was injured in the incident. We condemn this act in the strongest terms and will support Lancashire Police in their efforts to find whoever is responsible," they said.

Burnley, who were promoted to the English Premier League this season, suffered a 1-3 defeat at the hands of Villa in the match above. This is their second defeat this season from the two matches played.
