JAKARTA - Canadian basketball player and NBA player New York Knicks RJ Barret was amazed by the excitement of the audience who attended his team's inaugural match against France at the 2023 FIBA World Cup at the Indonesia Arena Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, Friday (25/8).
In the match which ended in a landslide victory in Canada 95-65 over France, spectators who attended the sports arena which was inaugurated in early August were 12,091 people.
"That's really cool. There are a lot of fans, a lot of cheers going on," said RJ Barret at the Indonesia Arena, Saturday (26/8), quoting Antara.
In a match enlivened by 10 NBA players, seven from Canada and three from France, viewers at the Indonesia Arena were so enthusiastic about cheering when they saw the actions of their favorite star players ranging from lay-ups, blocks, to sinks.
Not only to the cheers of the audience, the 1.95-meter-high basketball player also praised the overall facilities owned by the Indonesia Arena which have a capacity of 16,000 spectators.
"That's good (Indonesia Arena). I really like it. Everything is good. We have some training ground, dressing room. They do a very good job," said RJ Barret.
On the same occasion, Barret also commented on his national team mate telah Brooks who was cheered by a "boo" by the audience at the Indonesia Arena every time he brought the ball against France.
According to him, this is a uniqueness in itself because at the same time the Indonesian Arena audience also cheered the Houston Rockets club basketball player with the shout 'MVP' or the best player.
"It's funny to see how at the start of the game, everyone starts to boo. In the end, they then shouted at MVP. So it's cool to see," said Barret.
