Minister Of Communication And Information Reminds People To Be Careful Using Loans: If You Don't Need To Be Really, Don't Borrow

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi reminded the public to be careful using online loans (Pinjol).

He said online loans should be used for conditions that are urgently needed.

"There is an element of caution from consumers or the public to borrow online, if you don't really need to borrow," Budi said at the Sharia Economic Seminar, at Pos Bloc, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, August 23.

Not only that, Budi also asked the public to be more careful with the provisions imposed by online loan platforms. That way, the public can find out their ability to take loans.

"Don't borrow and don't know how new the interest is, pay dizziness. So we educate the public too," he said.

From 2016 to August 2023, there were 14,297 illegal loan sites that had been taken down by Kominfo.

In fact, said Budi, in August there were already 90 sites that were taken down.

"That's why we urge the public to be more careful in using online loans carefully," he said.

The reason, said Budi, is that many illegal management sites under the guise of legal sites.

For example, said Budi, there are consumers who want to transact at PT Pos legal, but there is an illegal website or site that resembles it. That way, consumers can be deceived by the site.

"For example, for example, the website of PT Pos, we know it's legal, it turns out that in another (illegal), it (the site) is impure, finally it hacks our data. We know the name of PT Pos," he said.

Therefore, Budi appealed to the public if they found an illegal loan site to immediately report to Kominfo.

He said the Kominfo would immediately cut off access.

"If there are reports of illegal borrowing, just report them to us. We will definitely execute them. We take down because many people are looking for it too," he explained.
