Scam Investments in Mojokerto Uncovered, Losses Reach Up To IDR 3.7 Billion
MOJOKERTO - The General Criminal Unit (Pidum) Satreskrim Polres Mojokerto, East Java, uncovered a fraudulent investment case with a total loss of IDR 3.7 billion.
Officers succeeded in arresting two women in this case, namely Melania Widiastuti (28), a resident of Sedati Village, Ngoro District, Mojokerto Regency and Sulistyani (30) from Sumbergandu Village, Kenceng District, Madiun Regency.
The modus operandi was for the two actors to buy and sell cosmetic products. Victims were promised a profit of 10 to 25 percent of the investment capital figures handed over to the two perpetrators.
Mojokerto Deputy Chief of Police, Commissioner of Police (Kompol) Afner Pangaribuan, said that these two women had run the fraudulent investment business from October 2022 to March 2023. This case was successfully uncovered after a report was received from the victim. The number of victims was 82 people, but only five people came forward.
"The disclosure of this case was based on a police report on May 10, 2023. The perpetrator said that this investment was trustworthy and would be held responsible if anything happened. Victims were attracted by promises of profits of 10 percent to 25 percent," said Afner, Monday, August 14.
He added, of the five victims who reported this case to the police, losses reached IDR 1 billion. The total number of 82 victims was IDR 3.7 billion.
"The evidence seized from the suspect Melania included a Colt Diesel Canter truck in 2022 number S 64 NBI, a Mitsubishi Pajero car in 2022, a Kawazaki Ninja motorbike number S 4536 QV, a Vespa motorbike in 2023 number S 6444 NBI, and IDR 20 million in cash. ," he explained.

According to Afner, victims of this fraudulent investment who have not reported it should immediately report it to the police and his party is still carrying out developments.
"Are the proceeds from this investment used for other things. We urge other victims to report it so we can develop further investigations," he concluded.
