17 Hotspots Detected In 4 Regencies Of East Kalimantan, BMKG Asks All Parties To Take Care Of Each Other

BALIKPAPAN - The Balikpapan Station Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) detected 17 hotspots spread across four districts in East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim).

The Coordinator for Data and Information at the Class I Meteorological Station, Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman-Sepinggan Balikpapan, Diyan Novrida, said the four districts in question were Paser, East Kutai, Kutai Kartanegara and Berau Regencies.

"A total of 17 hotspots were monitored throughout Saturday, from 01.00 to 17.00 WITA," he said in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Sunday, August 13, which was confiscated by Antara.

Hotspots are indicators of forest or land fires (karhutla) detected from a location with relatively high temperatures compared to the surrounding temperatures.

For this reason, he invites all levels of society to take care of each other and be vigilant, such as not throwing cigarette butts carelessly, or not burning when managing the land.

Especially now is the dry season which causes many leaves and twigs to dry up, so this condition is very prone to forest and land fires even though there is only a slight trigger.

He continued, the distribution of the 17 hotspots had been informed to related parties, including the regional disaster management agency (BPBD), both at the provincial and district levels to receive further treatment.

Previously, on Friday, August 11, BMKG also detected 24 hotspots spread across three districts, namely Paser Regency 6 points, East Kutai 2 points, and Berau Regency 16 hotspots.

A total of 24 points have been extinguished after handling, while 17 hotspots throughout last Saturday spread across four districts, the details are six points in Paser, three in East Kutai, two in Kutai Kartanegara, and six more points in Berau.

"All hotspots detected yesterday have a level of medium confidence. The distributions include in Berau, which has six points, are in three sub-districts, namely Derawan Island three, Bayur Bay two, and Sambaliung District one point," said Diyan.
