Four Syrian Soldiers Killed in an Israeli Missile Attack on Damascus

JAKARTA - An Israeli missile attack targeting the vicinity of the Syrian capital, Damascus, killed four soldiers, injured four and caused "amount of material damage", Syrian state media reported on Monday morning citing a military source.

"At around 2:20 a.m. today, the Israeli enemy launched an air aggression from the direction of the Syrian occupied Golan Heights, targeting several points around the city of Damascus," the military source said, reported Reuters on August 7.

However, the source added, Syrian air defenses intercepted the Israeli missiles and shot down some of them.

The Israeli military declined to comment on the attack on Damascus this time.

In February, Syria accused Israel of killing four civilians and a soldier in a missile attack on Damascus, as quoted by the BBC.

Israel has for years carried out attacks against what it says are Iran-linked targets in Syria, where Tehran's influence has grown since Iran began supporting President Bashar al-Assad in the civil war that started in 2011.
