The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Has Returned 9 Indonesian Citizens Who Are Victims Of TIP In Myanmar

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, August 4 has repatriated nine Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were victims of a criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) in conflict areas in Myawaddy, Myanmar.

Based on a written statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported by Antara, Saturday, August 5, the nine Indonesian citizens have undergone an examination process by local authorities with results stating that they are victims of trafficking in persons employed to commit online fraud or online scams.

The nine people consisted of two women and seven men, who came from several provinces in Indonesia, such as North Sumatra, Central Java, West Nusa Tenggara, West Java, Bali, and Central Java.

According to this information, the Indonesian citizens experienced exploitation at a company that operates online scams in Myawaddy. The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon then coordinated with local authorities until the nine Indonesian citizens finally left the company.

Furthermore, they were taken to the Myawaddy Police Station to undergo the examination process and then accommodated at the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon while waiting for the return schedule.

Upon arrival in the country, the Indonesian citizens will be placed in the Bambu Apus Trauma Center (RPTC), Ministry of Social Affairs, to undergo the rehabilitation process before being returned to their respective areas of origin.

The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon always tries to handle all incoming complaints amid limited information and political sensitivity in Myanmar. The Indonesian government also continues to urge the Indonesian people to be careful in accepting job offers that lead to the trap of exploiting online scamming companies.
