Regarding The Case Of IMEI Rules, The Ministry Of Industry Reveals The Operational Mode
The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) explained the illegal IMEI operating mode that dragged several Civil Servants (PNS) within the relevant ministries. As for the case, it is suspected that there were 191,965 illegal IMEI uploads in October 2022.
Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita previously said that the demolition of cases of violation of IMEI's rules began with his initiative. He admitted that he had been teased by several businessmen to be involved in "featuring" IMEI regulations aimed at preventing the circulation of illegal imported cellphones.
Agus said, other parties that have access to the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) engine are the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo), and cellular operators. CEIR machines themselves are tools used to store data and monitor cellphones throughout Indonesia using IMEI.
The alleged mode, namely the presence of individuals who access the Ministry of Industry's account. Febri suspects that there are irresponsible parties to illegally infiltrate the cellphone numbers (HP). The reason, he continued, in one process there were many IMEI numbers proposed so that the perpetrators took advantage of the gap at that time.
"Allegedly, then enter illegal numbers, that's the way. That's the way. His name is an illegal act of accessing IMEI," Febri told reporters at the Ministry of Industry Building, South Jakarta, Monday, July 31.
Therefore, according to Febri, the law used to ensnare the perpetrators should be the Electronic Information and Transaction Law (ITE), not the Corruption Crime Act.
Regarding the case, his party has sent a letter to the Centralized Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) to disable the illegal IMEI-IMEI.
"If now Bareskrim wants to send it based on a legal process, it will be better. Now, who has the authority to press the iMEI on-off button? It's in CEIR, CEIR manager, and cellular operator," he said.
In the future, continued Febri, his party will try to tighten its supervision. He said the Ministry of Industry would check one by one regarding IMEI registration. Whether it is already in the IMEI that has been circulating at this time, and who proposes it.
