Japan Open 2023: Chico Silences Israel's Representative To Advance To The Second Round
JAKARTA The men's singles badminton player Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo successfully reached the second round of the 2023 Japan Open after defeating his opponent from Israel, Mysha Zilberman.
Chico advanced to the second round of the BWF Super 750 event after winning two straight games 21-15 and 21-14 at Yoyogi Gymnasium, Tokyo, Tuesday, July 25 at noon WIB. Chico is Indonesia's second representative to advance to the round of 16.
Unfortunately, a few moments before that, the women's doubles steps Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti ran aground. The pair gave up 12-21, 21-16, and 13-16 from the host's representative, Namibia Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida.
Previously, three Indonesian representatives had played the first round. They are the women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung and mixed doubles duo Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti and Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati.
Of the three representatives, only Gregoria managed to qualify for the second round. The 2017 junior world champion extended his journey at the Super 750 BWF event after defeating Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong in a dramatic three-game manner.

Praveen/Melati were stopped by third seed Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino, while Rehan/Lisa were stopped by representatives of Hong Kong, Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet.
Indonesia still has hope to add one ticket at the Japan Open 2023 today. This happens if veteran pair Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan can win over Korean representative Kim Gi Jung/Kim Sa Rang.
