Honda Make Sure Type R Will Be Present In The Future EV Model
JAKARTA - Vehicle manufacturers are now increasingly shifting their focus to electrified vehicles, and this is not limited to the standard model. Some manufacturers, such as Audi with Audi Sport RS and Mercedes-Benz with AMG, have expanded their high performance segments to electric vehicles.
Honda also plans to follow in the footsteps with its Type R emblem. Emblem Type R has been present in various Honda models for years. The Japanese manufacturer plans to continue the tradition in the form of electric vehicles.
Ko Yamamoto, Honda's Technical Advisor, revealed that Type R is about creating pleasure in driving and vehicle operations. For him, electric vehicles can also provide a pleasant driving experience.
"If electric cars give pleasure, then the car deserves to be labeled Type R," said Yamamoto, quoted by Autocar, Monday, July 24.
However, Yamamoto insists that other Honda models, such as CR-V, HR-V, and Jazz, will not get high performance variants like Type R. Thus, it is likely that Civic Type R will be the last conventional vehicle with the badge before switching to electrification. Even so, Yamamoto guarantees that Type R will not disappear in the near future.
"A gasoline engine still has a future in the future, because Honda has an interest in e-fuels. However, it doesn't always have to be a gasoline engine. It could be something electric, or completely electric," added Yamamoto.

If you look at the Honda footprint in the electric vehicle segment, currently new Japanese manufacturers offer models such as Honda e and e:Ny1. It is likely that one of these two models will be the first electric car to get the Type R variant in the future.
