Komjak Reminds AGO To Follow Up President Jokowi's Hopes

Chairman of the Prosecutor's Commission (Komjak) Barita Simanjuntak reminded the ranks of the Attorney General's Office to follow up on President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) hopes of maintaining and improving performance and maintaining public trust, which was conveyed at the peak of 63rd Adhyaksa Bhakti Day this morning.

"What the President warned earlier, maintaining or increasing it was much more difficult, therefore it takes togetherness from all elements of the prosecutor's office to work together to maintain that trust," Barita said, quoted from Antara, Saturday, July 22.

Barita assessed that the performance achievements of the Attorney General's Office were the best along with President Jokowi's government, by getting an assessment of the highest level of trust among other law enforcement agencies in Indonesia.

According to him, the level of public trust is important because in the era of modern law enforcement, the paradigm has shifted, that law enforcement agencies not only have an impact on the authority of the executor of tasks, but how people feel the presence of the state in law enforcement which will foster trust in law enforcement itself and in the government.

"This is where Pak Jokowi underlined his appreciation for the best achievements in the past nine years," said Barita.

As an external supervisor, Komjak who is tasked with being based on the Prosecutor's Law sees the performance achievements of the Attorney General's Office in the era of the leadership of Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin providing exemplary in a firm and uncompromised sense to all forms of violations of prosecution.

In handling cases, the Special Crimes Division (Pidsus) of the Attorney General's Office also handled mega corruption cases such as Jiwasraya, ASABRI, Garuda, cooking oil, BTS 4G Kominfo, land mafia and others were all dealt with firmly.

"The Attorney General implemented Pak Jokowi's message on Bhakti Adhyaksa Day two years ago. Belai stated that the prosecutor's office is the face of law enforcement in Indonesia," he said.

The President's message, said Barita, was implemented by Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin firmly, consistently and measurably, so that from 2019 to 2023 the level of public trust in the Attorney General's Office continued to increase. If in September 2022 it was 77 percent, in June 2023 it would be 81.2 percent.

Barita is of the view that the AGO's firmness in investigating mega corruption cases is seen by the public. Because, if the law enforcement is not dealt with firmly, which in the end is not proven in court, then there is no significant return on state financial losses and economic recovery.

In the release of the performance achievements of the Attorney General's Office until the first half of 2023, the Attorney General's Office for Pidsus handled corruption cases with a total loss of IDR 152.2 trillion and 61,948,551 US dollars.

"This is proven by all the return of state losses, confiscation of corruptors' assets, now this is significantly and consistently carried out by the Prosecutor's Office," said Barita.

Barita, who is also a member of the Legal Reform Acceleration Team, added that the high level of public trust is also inseparable from the implementation of the vision of Attorney General Burhanuddin, namely restorative justice.

He said that the settlement of cases through restorative justice is quite significant in resolving simple cases that provide space for local wisdom to be involved in the recovery of the situation.

Since it was implemented from July 22, 2020 to July 11, 3,121 cases have been resolved through a restorative justice mechanism.

"The prosecutor's authority as the executor of state power in the field of prosecution through a retorative justice mechanism fosters public confidence that the law is not only sharp downwards, blunt upwards. However, the Prosecutor's Office has succeeded in providing evidence to the public that the prosecutor's office is humanist," Barita said.
