The Mayor of Padang, Hendri Septa, appealed to his citizens to remain alert to the potential for heavy rain in the next few days. A number of areas in West Sumatra, including Padang, have been flooded since yesterday.

"When there is heavy rain that has the potential for flooding, residents should immediately save themselves," he said.
Hendri also appealed to people living in the vicinity of the hilly area to be careful and leave their homes temporarily when heavy rains occur accompanied by strong winds.
