Porsche Vision 357 Speedster, Combining Classic Look With Electric Vehicle Performance

JAKARTA - This weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed turned out to bring many surprises, one of which came from Porsche carrying their newest concept car, namely the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster.

Reporting from Porsche's media space, today, July 13, the concept car is based on Porsche Vision 357 which was previously disclosed in January, as a modern embodiment of Porsche's original sports car, which is 356, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the brand. However, there is a further difference in the Speedster version, because it gets a flat-six 4.0-liter engine, this version is fully electric by adopting the Mission R concept.

The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster has a look similar to the coupe version, except for the non-existent roof. Most of the bodies are the same, including hidden headlights, large curved ferry, and an elegant vertical grille gap on the back. On the roof is removed, there is a single seat behind the driver's seat, and the passenger side is hidden by the tonneau cover.

This car has a unique paint scheme in silver and gray with bright blue accents. In fact, this car has an animal mascot like the other latest Porsche concept: a unicorn, located on each side in front of the rear wheel.

The interior of this car is mostly made of plain carbon fiber. Driver seats are printed directly on carbon fiber monocoke chassis with multiple pads to provide comfort. There is also a six-point seat belt keeping the driver on track, and a shelf with multiple strings to secure important documents.

This car chassis comes from the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, which is not very different from the 718-based Porsche 357. However, this Speedster uses electric power. Porsche did not provide detailed specifications, but they said that the motor and battery were based on the Mission R concept.

It is known, Mission R uses a pair of motorbikes, one at the back with 644 dk of power, and one at the front with 429 dk of power, with a total power of 1,073 dk. Mission R is also equipped with a 82 kWh battery pack. All these components will make 357 Speedsters a true monster in terms of performance compared to 357 couple.

Again, the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster is only a concept and apart from the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, it will also take part in the Rennsport Reunion in September. Then, will the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster be a production car? Only Porsche knows.
