Mazda Records Impressive Sales But EV Sales Decrease Significantly
JAKARTA - Mazda North American Operations, a vehicle provider for Mazda for North America, announced the proceeds from the sale of their products in the US in June. Total sales reached 29,786 units, an increase of 97 percent compared to the previous year.
Although Mazda's overall product sales in the US impress, sales of Mazda MX-30, which is an electric vehicle, did not hit the expected target.
According to an InsideEVs report on Monday, July 10, Mazda MX-30's sales only reached 16 units during June. Although this number is not a small number, this number shows a 30 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.
During the second quarter of 2023, Mazda only managed to sell 51 units of electric vehicles in California, a decrease of 35 percent compared to the same period the previous year.
Not only that, in the first half of 2023, Mazda only managed to sell a total of 66 units of the electric SUV, a decrease of 79 percent compared to the same period last year. Overall, Mazda has only managed to sell 571 units of Mazda MX-30 over the past almost two years.
Although Mazda MX-30 made a very small contribution, Mazda still recorded impressive overall sales during the first six months of this year, with total sales of 183,783 units, an increase of 29 percent compared to the previous year.
Mazda is one of the manufacturers of Japanese cars that are still left behind in the development of electric vehicles. Currently, Mazda only provides Mazda MX-30 as their electric vehicle.
Mazda MX-30 uses a synchronous AC magnetic permanent electric motor with a power of 143 dk, with a front-wheel drive and direct-driven transmission system. This vehicle is equipped with a 32 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery, capable of traveling up to 161 km after one charge. However, this figure is low for electric vehicles in general.
Mazda MX-30 is sold for $34.110 or around Rp517.7 million.
