Former GAM Commander Izil Azhar Defendant Of Corruption Sabang Pier Project Tried At Medan District Court

The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Agus Prasetya in the indictment outlined that 2004 the Sabang Area Entrepreneurship Agency (BPKS) had a budget for loading and unloading pier construction activities in Sabang, Aceh.

From 2006 to 2011, the BPKS continued its Sabang Pier construction activities which were still financed by the state budget, but had stopped in 2005 due to a tsunami disaster at the end of 2004.

"In 2006, Irwandi Yusuf informed T Syaiful Ahmad as Head of BPKS, saying that the defendant as commander of GAM Sabang Region was responsible for the security of the Sabang Pier project," Agus said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 10.

Izil was named a suspect in the case with Irwandi Yusuf as the Governor of Aceh for the 2007-2012 period on suspicion of receiving gratuities related to his position and contrary to his obligations or duties.
