Reviewing The Proposed Location As Geopark In Gorontalo, Secretary General Of GGN: This Is Very Important

JAKARTA - Secretary-General of Global Geopark Network (Secretary General of GGN) Guy Totaling has begun to conduct a survey of a number of proposed locations for Geopark in regencies and cities in Gorontalo Province.

A number of geological sites, history, culture are reviewed to be input for the provincial government. The visit, entitled advisory mission, aims to assess whether Gorontalo's Aspir Geopark status deserves to be set as a national Geopark under UNESCO's supervision.

If this can be done, the management of the earth park will become a national and world concern for the conservation and economic welfare of the community.

"I came here at the invitation of Bappenas related to Aspiring Gorontalo Geopark to analyze the situation, see what I know about Gorontalo as a Global Geopark candidate," said the man from France, Saturday, July 8.

Guyploy and his assistant Daniela and a team from Bappenas arrived at Djalaluddin Airport, Gorontalo, Friday and started a visit to the Karawo House. The traditional Gorontalo cloth is seen as an intangible cultural heritage of the area that deserves to be preserved.

The group then moved to Otanaha Fort. The historic site from the Portuguese heritage around the X-century caught the attention ofTEN. Accompanied by a team from the Gorontalo Geopark and the Cultural Preservation Center (BPK)urce received an explanation about the origin and history of the Fort Otanaha.

"This is an important site because its age was built around the 1500s. In terms of architectural design and fabrication materials, it is also quite good, so I think this is very good for the future of your Geopark," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

The presence and team are planned to last until July 13, 2023. Apart from Fort Otanaha, he will also visit the Whale Shark, Olele Sea Park, a limestone in East Biluhu.

The old city in Gorontalo City will also be explored including Oleluta geosite, Lombongo as well as granodiorit and red limestone in Boalemo Regency. Red limestone is one of the important geological sites including the Pentadio Resort geothermal and the Limboto Lake area in Gorontalo Regency.
