Jokowi: The Mosque In Rumoh Geudong Was Built According To The Wishes Of The Community

BANDA ACEH - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the construction of a mosque in the location of past human rights violations (HAM) Rumoh Geudong, Pidie Regency, Aceh, was in accordance with the demands and wishes of the local community.

"So what did this not immediately build, what did you build, not according to the wishes of the community," said Jokowi on the sidelines of the launch of the non-judicial human rights violation completion program which took place at Rumoh Geudong, Gampong Bili Aron, Pidie Regency, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 27.

Before being built, according to the president, the government had already absorbed aspirations related to what the people wanted at the location, so the community asked to build a mosque.

Likewise, the two locations of gross human rights violations in Aceh that were included in 12 human rights violations were recognized by the state, namely the Simpang KKA incident in North Aceh and Jamboe Kepok in South Aceh.

Jokowi said the construction of the mosque as well as the live park in Rumoh Geudong will begin in September 2023. The government will also do the same for Simpang KKA and Jamboe Keupok.

"It will be resolved one by one, the other is designed first, asking the public what the community wants. Like here (Rumoh Geudong), the wish, sir, we want to build a mosque, okay, there is a mosque in the park," he said.

The construction of the live park and mosque at the Geudong Rumoh location with the concept of containing the history of the Geudong Rumoh incident.

There are several remains of the Geudong Rumoh that are maintained, such as stairs and wells. And later a monument will also be built to commemorate the events of past violations.

Therefore, according to Jokowi, the concept of restoring the historical site is that it can still remember and benefit the community, so that a mosque and live park is chosen.

"Therefore, a park is made that can be used by people here, considering that in a positive perspective it is not negative, so a live park is built," said the President.

The launch of the program to implement the recommendation for the non-judicial completion of gross human rights violations in Aceh is Jokowi's agenda which marks the start of the fulfillment of the rights of victims of non-judicial gross human rights violations.

Some time ago, Jokowi had announced the government's commitment to resolving non-judicial 12 cases of gross human rights violations in the country.

Of the 12 cases, three of them were in Tanah Rencong, namely the Geudong Rumoh Incident and the Sattis Post in Aceh in 1989, the Aceh KKA Intersection Event in 1999, and the 2003 Jambo Keupok Aceh Incident.
