Bandung City Government Completes 2 New Retention Pools For Flood Reduction
BANDUNG - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) will soon complete two new retention ponds in mid-2023 to accommodate water to reduce floods that often occur at a number of points in Bandung City, West Java.
Plh. Bandung Mayor Ema Sumarna said the two retention ponds were in Babakan Ciparay and Rancasari sub-districts. According to him, his party is now continuing to process for the two retention pool constructions to be completed soon.
"The design is assisted by the Ciptabintar Service (Cipta Karya, Construction Development, and Spatial Planning). Within two weeks, I am sure it will be finished," said Ema, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 16.
The retention pond, according to him, utilizes the concept of added wells. This is done to accelerate water storage so that the impact of flooding will be reduced optimally.

He said a number of retention ponds were built on an area of tens of thousands of square meters and were able to accommodate water up to thousands of cubic meters.
In addition to storing and absorbing water, the two retention ponds are also open spaces for the public. Because it will be equipped with a jogging track around the location.
With the retention pond which also functions as an open space, it is able to increase the happiness index of the community.
"I ask for an increase of at least 4 meters so that the water capacity can be more. Then it will definitely be installed with added wells," he said.
