Indonesia Open 2023: Apri/Fadia Lose To Japanese Representatives

JAKARTA – The women's doubles pair Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti fell in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Indonesia Open. They were defeated by Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota.

Apri/Fadia gave up two straight games 13-21 and 31-21 to the Japanese pair at Istora, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, 16 June 2023 evening WIB.

This is Apriyani/Fadia's second defeat to Yuki/Sayaka. The owner of the Vietnam 2021 SEA Games gold medal previously lost to the Japanese pair in their only meeting at the 2023 Swiss Open.

This defeat depleted the women's doubles representatives at the 2023 Indonesia Open. The women's doubles is one of three sectors that definitely do not have representatives in the semifinals. The other two are mixed doubles and women's singles.

Apart from Apri/Fadia, the men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto were also eliminated after losing in two straight games 13-21 and 13-21 against the Indian pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty.

"Indeed, the opponent played very well. We lost from all patterns of play," Fajar said in a post-match press conference.

Previously, the mixed doubles Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari had already lifted their luggage. This pair was defeated by the Japanese representative, Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino.
