The Indonesian Embassy In Tripoli Handles The Case Of Workers From East Lombok Persecuted By Employers In Libya
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli has received a complaint from SM, an Indonesian migrant worker who is suspected of experiencing physical violence from his employer in Libya.
In a video circulating on social media, the East Lombok worker admitted that he was initially promised to work in Turkey, but in reality he was brought to Libya.
"The Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli immediately followed up on the report by tracking SM's location and contact number. On June 15, 2023, the Indonesian Embassy has succeeded in communicating directly with SM," said Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and BHI of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha as reported by ANTARA, Friday, June 16.
Through this communication, it is known that SM is in Benghazi which is about 1,000 kilometers from Tripoli. "He has been moved from the employer's house and is currently safe to be in the agency's office," said Judha.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli has applied for permission from the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to visit Benghazi.
The meeting with SM in Benghazi is scheduled to take place on June 18, 2023 to ensure the fulfillment of their rights in accordance with the applicable law in Libya.
The Indonesian Embassy has also contacted the family and BP3MI NTB to convey the handling steps.
