More Than The 1998 Krismon, Jokowi Calls 96 Countries To Be IMF Patients
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) revealed that the world's economy is still difficult. In fact, he said, countries that are patients with the International Monetary Fund or IMF reached 96 percent.
Jokowi said, this information was obtained directly from the IMF Managing Director, Kristarina Georgirva, during a visit to Japan some time ago.
"When I was in Japan, in Hiroshima at the G7 I met the IMF managing director, he said that 96 countries have become IMF patients, 96 countries," he said at the 2023 Internal Insight Coordination Meeting (Wasin) at the BPKP Office, East Jakarta, Wednesday, June 14.
Jokowi also compared this situation to the crisis in 1998. He said, at that time IMP patients were not as many as they are today.
"In the past, how many were 98? There weren't all 10. (Now) 96 countries. Showing the current world situation is really a difficult solution," he said.
In fact, Jokowi continued, in the past few weeks it was also reported about the situation experienced by Europe. He said, the country has entered the brink of economic recession.
"Maybe last week and 1-2 weeks we read in Europe technically has entered a recession. Bad information like that," he explained.

Therefore, Jokowi ordered the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) to oversee the use of the state budget (APBN) and the regional budget (APBD) in detail.
Furthermore, Jokowi also reminded all his staff to spend the budget on productive sectors.
"So every rupiah that we spend from the APBN, all APBD must be productive. Because it's difficult to find money, whether it's through taxes, PNBP, loyalty, dividends are not easy. Now it's not easy," he said.
