Sayonara Vendor! Tesla Shows Off Its Own Production Battery Technology

JAKARTA - The world famous electric car manufacturer Tesla is said to have the latest technology for battery manufacturing which is claimed to be able to save 56 percent of manufacturing costs from before. This information was shared by Tesla via his official twitter page.

It is stated that these power storage plants are located in Texas, United States and Berlin, Germany. The company owned by Elon Musk then invited the public to also apply for jobs as employees at this Tesla battery production site.

To note, the battery is the single main component that is touted as the most expensive part of the Tesla vehicle. For this reason, the ambitious plan to develop the 4680 battery is the latest priority to reduce production costs and selling prices to consumers.

The battery development project to reduce manufacturing costs can also increase the possibility of using electric vehicles more massively and quickly in the community.

Currently, most of the battery products used by Tesla are supplied by third parties, such as LG, Panasonic, Chinese Amperex Technology Limited (CATL). Thus, the development of a power supply independently is a further strategic step to make electric vehicles more affordable to a wide audience.

Meanwhile, in terms of battery use technology, Tesla is said to have had a new design with tabless electrode technology which has a new electric binding structure. Through this system will reduce the cost of making batteries by 18 percent.

The 4680 battery has more silicon embedded in the anode which makes it work better. In terms of shape some parts look quite small with a diameter of 46mm and a height of 80mm which aims to optimize the space in the battery pack.

Earlier in September 2020, Elon Musk confirmed that his party had tested the reliability of this battery on a prototype vehicle at the Fremont production facility.

It seems that the production of the 4680 battery is irreversible. The factory in Gigafactory, Texas will be the history of Tesla's new move. Followed by Berlin as the first Gigafactory in Europe, which is planned to be followed by the manufacture of Model Y. Especially in Europe, Elon said that the production facility is projected to be the largest cell battery factory in the world.

Today, thanks to Tesla, more and more people are getting used to the existence of electric cars. This means that the demand for batteries will also increase and the need for basic materials such as lithium, cobalt and nickel will certainly increase.

Tesla himself with the 4680 battery plans to use a high nickel cathode to produce more energy stored in the vehicle so that the duration of use can be even longer.
