Referee Anthony Taylor Becomes The Months Of AS Roma Fans After The 2023 Europa League Final
JAKARTA - British referee Anthony Taylor, who led the 2023 Europa League final, became the target of AS Roma fans at Budapest Airport. This followed the Giallorossi' defeat to Sevilla.
The moment of bullying against Taylor and his wife and children before leaving Budapest was spread on social media. A number of videos circulating showed Taylor and his family being escorted by airport security officers leaving a cafe heading to a safe area.
It is known that the security forces were forced to do this because a number of AS Roma fans were hunting down and expressing their frustration with the referee. A number of AS Roma supporters also expressed harsh words against Taylor and his family members, including his daughter and wife.
Not only that, there were AS Roma supporters who were seen throwing water at Taylor and his family. There was also tension because they hit each other between fans and someone suspected of being Taylor's relatives, until the moment of throwing a chair was inevitable.
The anger of AS Roma fans is suspected of being disappointed with the results that occurred in the final, Thursday, June 1. In that match AS Roma was defeated by Sevilla on penalties and the referee's one-sided leadership was considered another perpetrator.
Quoted from Sky Sport, regarding the chaos that occurred, Budapest Airport said a criminal process had been carried out. A US Roma supporter has been arrested and charged with making a fuss in the incident.
