The Addition Of The Term Of Office Of KPK Leaders Is Considered To Be Faculty Of Politization, Ghufron: Colors Of Democracy
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nurul Ghufron does not care about public assessments after his term of office is extended until 2024. He said, in the democratic era, everyone was free to express their opinion.
This was conveyed by Ghufron in response to many who considered the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the addition of the term of office of the head of the anti-corruption commission full of politicization.
"The interpretation and views of various parties are part of the colorful democracy," said Ghufron in a written statement to reporters, Monday, May 29.
Even so, Ghufron emphasized that the Constitutional Court's decision must be followed. Therefore, the KPK is currently waiting for a Decree (SK) signed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
"Democracy must remain in the corridor of law," he said.
Moreover, Ghufron said that like it or not, the Constitutional Court had decided to increase the term of office for the KPK leadership. It is hoped that this polemic will not continue for a long time.
"Let's face the future with a new law as decided by the Constitutional Court. This is the law of the periodization of the KPK leadership," he said.

This decision was read out by Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman during the Decree and Decision Speech Session.
"Declaring Article 34 of the KPK Law which originally reads 'KPK leaders hold office for 4 years and can be re-elected only for one term' contrary to the 1945 Constitution and do not have conditionally binding legal force as long as it is interpreted as 'KPK leaders hold office for 5 years and can be re-elected only for one term of office,' said Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman, which was broadcast on the MK YouTube channel.
There were several considerations in the decision. Among them, for the sake of alignment, because the four-year term scheme, recruitment was carried out twice, namely December 2019 and December 2023.
