Pep Guardiola Is Willing To Lose Manchester City Captain, This Figure Could Be His Substitute
JAKARTA - Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is already preparing to lose his captain, Ilkay Gundogan. Rumors emerged that the German player would leave this summer.
One name has been considered. He is Bayern Munich midfielder, Joshua Kimmich.
That name is not a new figure for Guardiola. The 28-year-old was brought to Bayern Munich when Guardiola served as coach.
Kimmich reportedly doesn't feel at home in Bayern. The reason is, he was angry with the dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann in March.
He is said to be looking for new challenges. His ability to play as a defender and midfielder has placed him at the top of City's target list.
Barcelona are also interested in Kimmich, but their main focus remains on signing Gundogan on a free transfer.
Bayern themselves are trying to raise money to strengthen their squad. Selling Kimmich could be one of the alternatives.
Another alternative is to exchange Kimmich's overthrow for Joao Cancelo who is currently on loan from City.
Kimmich still has two years remaining in his current contract. However, he did not give any indication of signing a new contract.
Apart from Kimmich, Guardiola also glanced at Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea, who is a year older.
