3 Star Becomes Dankormar TNI AL, KASAL Calls President Jokowi's Waiting Decision

JAKARTA - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL) Admiral Muhammad Ali submitted a proposal to place high-ranking TNI officers who bear three stars in the position of Commander of the Indonesian Navy's Marine Corps (Dankormar) have passed the stage of the script test.

The current stage is that the proposal is waiting for approval from President Joko Widodo, considering that changes in the structure of the TNI's organization (organization validation) require a presidential decree as the legal basis.

"For the Marine Corps, it has been planned to increase its position as a three-star star. This process has already tested the script at the batch headquarters, then at the TNI Headquarters it has passed; and at the Ministry of Defense (Ministry of Defense) it has passed, now it has gone to the President," said the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy in response to ANTARA's question during a press conference after the handover ceremony for the handover of the Dankormar position in Marine Kesatrian Hartono, Cilandak, Jakarta, Sunday.

Along with the ongoing process, Ali said he would coordinate with the Ministry of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN RB) to discuss several adjustments related to the change.

"And of course, later I will also coordinate with Kemenpan RB. Hopefully in the near future. Please pray for it," said Admiral Ali.

The discourse to place a three-star general as the leader of the Marine Corps has been rolling since at least 2021 when the Indonesian Navy was led by TNI Admiral Yudo Margono, and the TNI was led by TNI Commander Andika Perkasa.

Yudo, while still serving as Kasal, in November 2022 said the Marine Corps Commander deserved to be held by a three-star general for adjusting the size of troops, defense equipment, and duties carried out by Marine Corps troops.

"Layak dengan organisasi yang ada. Dengan jumlah penjabat yang ada, dengan alutsista yang ada, dengan tugas yang digemban oleh Korps Marinir," kata Yudo saat masih menjabat sebagai Kasal tahun lalu.

The Commander of the Marine Corps, who was officially held on Sunday by TNI Major General Mar Nur Alamsyah, oversees three Marine troops, namely Marine 1 Troops in Jakarta, Marine Troops 2 in Surabaya, and Marine Troops 3 in Sorong.

TNI Major General Mar Nur Alamsyah replaces Major General TNI Mar Widodo Dwi Purwanto, who is a high-ranking officer at the Indonesian Navy Headquarters in order to retire.
