Problems At The Instrument Cluster, Kia Pull 108 Thousand Vehicle Units

JAKARTA - South Korean automotive company Kia has withdrawn about 108,000 vehicles. The trigger for the recall was caused by a digital instrument that was not working.

Quoted from Motor1, Monday, May 8, this problem could cause affected vehicles to fail to comply with US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).

Problems with digital instruments are caused by a failure in the software system and voltage instability when the vehicle is turned on which an error occurs on the screen.

According to the United States Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), errors in digital instruments can result in the screen being empty when the vehicle is operating, so drivers cannot see important information on vehicles, such as tire pressure, warning messages, and other indicators.

The models affected by the withdrawal are Soul, Telluride, Niro Hybrid, Niro Plug-In Hybrid, Sportage, Sportage Hybrid, and Sportage Plug-In Hybrid 2023 which has a 4.2-inch LCD digital instrument cluster screen.

However, Kia has not received any reports related to accidents or casualties due to the failure of the digital instrument.

The manufacturer will contact the affected vehicle owners and direct them to take the car to the official workshop. The notification letter is scheduled to be issued on May 26.

To solve the problem, Kia technicians will update the software on digital instruments for free. But for vehicle owners who have paid for the problem improvements, they also received money back.

This adds to the list of Kia's vehicles affected by the recall. Last April, Kia withdrew more than 51,000 Carnivals because of problems with sliding doors that could injure passengers.
