Arm Ltd Develops Post-IPO Prototype Semiconductor

JAKARTA - British chipmaker Arm Ltd is building its own semiconductor to showcase its product capabilities and attract new subscribers after this year's Initial Public Offering (IPO). This was reported by the Financial Times on Sunday, April 23.

Arm will work closely with partners to develop the new semiconductor, the FT reported, citing people informed about this. The company has formed a "solutions engineering" team that will lead the development of this prototype chip for mobile, laptop, and other electronics devices.

Arm's latest chip, which has been working on in the past six months, is "more sophisticated" than ever before, the FT reported, citing industry executives.

However, the chip designer had no plans to sell or license products and only worked on the prototype, the FT reported.

Arm is the main supplier of intellectual property to many chip companies, especially on mobile phones and has partnerships with major chip contract manufacturers.

Earlier this month, Intel Corp announced that it would be working with Arm to ensure mobile phone chips and other products using Arm technology can be made at Intel's factories. Unfortunately, Arm has not yet responded to Reuters' request for comment.
