Vale Indonesia Has Reclamation Of 295.43 HA Mining Land
JAKARTA - PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (INCO) reports that throughout 2022 it has succeeded in reclamation of 295.43 hectares (HA) of mining land, one percent better than the targeted 293.44 Ha with 179,993 trees planted.
CEO of PT Vale Indonesia, Febriany Eddy said, the total area of land that was rehabilitated and reclamationd until 2022 was 3,500.22 Ha.
"The focus of rehabilitation is also on watersheds (DAS) outside the 10,000 Ha concession area," said Febriany in a follow-up report received by VOI, Tuesday, April 18.
He continued, Vale also spent USD 20.14 million for environmental management in 2022 for the Sorowako and Pomalaa areas.
"PT Vale has won the trust of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) to rehabilitate the 435 Ha watershed in six sub-districts in West Java Province. Until 2022, PT Vale has handed over 140 hectares of critical land to the REhabilitated watershed to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry," he explained.
Febriany continued, during 2022 Vale recorded positive achievements in environmental, social, governance and economic management performance.
"In realizing its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the coverage of one and two is 33% by 2030 and towards net zero emissions by 2050," said Febriany.
Currently, PT Vale operates Sorowako nickel factory with a carbon intensity of 26.94 Tons of CO2 eq/Ton Ni, the lowest in Indonesia. The company also recorded a reduction in GRK emissions of 330,669 tons of CO2eq.

The commitment to reduce carbon emissions will also be implemented in two development projects of PT Vale. At the Indonesia Growth Project (IGP) Morowali Central Sulawesi, PT Vale and its partners, namely TISCO, and Xinhai, agreed to operate the first plant with electric energy from natural gas plants. Meanwhile, at IGP Pomalaa, Southeast Sulawesi, PT Vale, Huayou, and Ford, will operate with non-coal power.
In accordance with the roadmap to carbon neutral, PT Vale has carried out several initiatives, including smart energy monitoring, optimization studies for the Larona hydropower plant, testing heavy electric vehicles, and repairing packageball heating ups.
"PT Vale also scored achievements in energy efficiency. Among them, the use of biodiesel B30 biodiesel biodiesel fuel which was able to reduce 30 percent of the use of fossil fuels," concluded Febriany.
