Accelerate Unloading At Batu Ampar Port, BP Batam Presents Container Crane From South Korea

BATAM - The Batam Concession Agency (BP), Riau Islands, presents a container crane from South Korea as an effort to speed up the loading and unloading process at Batu Ampar Port.

Head of BP Batam Muhammad Rudi said the crane can move 35 container units in one hour, or the same as one container unit it only takes 2 minutes.

"In the past, the loading and unloading cranes took a long time, in one loading and unloading time it could take up to 45 minutes. With this crane, it only took 2 minutes," said Rudi as quoted from Antara, Sunday, April 9.

He added, in one year Batu Ampar Port received around 600 containers that entered Batam City.

"We share all the containers equally in just 2 minutes. I think we can find out in a few hours the containers will be completed. This means that this tool can solve the problems that exist here," he said.

He said the order for the crane had been made 14 months ago with a budget of IDR 120 billion.

Rudi plans that next year, his party will add a similar container crane to improve the loading and unloading process faster.

"We hope that with this sophisticated tool, later there will be many goods owners who want to leave goods in Batam, so we will build all the equipment," he said.

According to him, this step is also an effort to make Batu Ampar Port a logistics hub for Indonesia and to other countries.

"Hopefully, the logistics hub that we are planning in Batu Ampar can be resolved. We will include this crane container because the area for the seaway has been prepared from 6 hectares, 12 hectares, and later 20 hectares. The point is that later it will become a place for stacking containers. So that's the logistics hub that we hope for," said Rudi.
