Due To The Door Problem, Kia Withdraws Carnival
JAKARTA - One of the minivan models that Kia has produced, Carnival is having problems with Power Slide Doors (PDS). Because of this, users want a standard swing door as their replacement.
Kia recalled 51,568 units from 2022 and 2023 due to the function of automatic backward doors that could not function properly.
Reporting from Motor1, Friday, April 7, the documentation included with the recall said that there were several incidents that caused injuries that were allegedly caused by the door not detecting any barriers when they were closed and locked.
A third-party technician has been hired to carry out testing related to this issue. However, no problems have occurred in the design or operation of the automatic backdoor used.
However, many injuries were reported to involve the electric door. Meanwhile, Kia only found out that there was an injury in the "small number" in the related documents.
The document notes that there were nine cases that caused injuries to adults and children, of which seven were bruises/injured/strengthened, one was broken, and one arm was broken.
Kia's conclusion is that users are not aware that the powered door is closing. However, Kia will update the door pads software, adding a warning that the door will be closed.
Kia will also set the speed of closing the door to be slower, especially the door near the locking point. This can give adults and children more time to avoid.
The recall is valid for the Kia Carnival production 2022 until February 23, 2023. Vehicles produced after that date, will have the software update.
The notification will be made by Kia starting April 28 and the car user is free of charge.
