29 Translocation Protected Animals Handed Over To Maluku BKSDA, Will Be Released After Examined By Doctors
MALUKU - As many as 29 wild animals endemic to the Maluku Islands were handed over to the Maluku Province Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA).
Polhut Maluku BKSDA Seto said dozens of protected animals were the result of translocation activities from the South Sulawesi Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA).
"Located at the Angkasa Pura I Warehousing Complex, Ambon Pattimura Airport Branch, protected wild animals have been received as a result of animal translocation activities from the South Sulawesi BBKSDA," he said in Ambon, Tuesday, April 4, confiscated by Antara.
The 29 protected animals consist of one Ternate Kasturi (Lorius garrulus), 25 Maluku Nuri (Eos bornea), and three Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus).
Seto said the translocated birds were the result of handing over and confiscation by officials in the South Sulawesi BBKSDA work area.

These birds have undergone a quarantine and rehabilitation process in the transit enclosures owned by the South Sulawesi BBKSDA so they are now in a very wild condition and ready to be released.
"The dozens of animals have been quarantined before and have been rehabilitated in transit enclosures belonging to the South Sulawesi BBKSDA," he said.
Currently, said Seto, the birds are being rested and quarantined in the Maluku Islands Wildlife Conservation Center Cage to restore their health.
"The plan is that in the next few days, there will be a re-examination of animal health by veterinarians from the Ambon Class I Agricultural Quarantine Station before the animals are brought to be released into their natural habitat," said Seto.
Based on the provisions of Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning the Conservation of Living Natural Resources and their Ecosystems that whoever deliberately catches, injures, kills, stores, owns, maintains, transports and trades protected animals alive (Article 21 paragraph (2) letter a), shall be punished with imprisonment for a maximum of five years and a fine of up to Rp. 100 million (Article 40 paragraph (2).
