Schools In Manokwari Will Bebikin With Dormitory Patterns, The Regency Government Immediately Conducts Academic Studies

PAPUA - The Manokwari Regency Government (Pemkab) plans to make a number of schools in the West Papua Province have a dormitory pattern.

Manokwari Regent Hermus Indou said the plan was included in his program when leading Manokwari. Following up on the plan, Hermus said the district government would conduct an academic study.

"We must conduct an academic study first to ensure that boarding education becomes a necessity that can be organized and can be implemented properly in Manokwari Regency," he said in Manokwari, Papua, Monday, February 20, as reported by Antara.

After conducting a study, he continued, several junior high and high school junior high schools will be selected to be tested.

Hermus explained that the system is to change school status or build a new boarding school.

"For now, we cannot confirm whether SMPN 1, SMPN 2, or SMPN 3. We will see it as needed. As for private schools organized by private educational foundations such as Catholics, we will strengthen Villanova Catholic junior high schools in Maripi," he said.

For strengthened schools, according to Hermus, the Manokwari Regency Government will cooperate with school committees and foundation leaders to ensure the needs of the school. Thus, the status as a school with superior dormitories and schools can be realized in Manokwari Regency.

"Then the Yapis and Advent Junior High Schools and also later for YPPGI will be seen. We hope that it will become a model school whose education system is different from junior high school education in general, which of course emphasizes the formation of character, discipline, and a much more competitive education curriculum in order to build human resources, especially junior high school students who are much more outstanding," said Hermus.

Meanwhile, for high school education, the Manokwari Regency Government will focus on the Kasuari Taruna High School. Another school that will be strengthened is the Villanova Catholic High School, which is the embryo of a boarding school that has been running so far.

"So, the Manokwari Regency Government will work with the foundation management to ensure the needs of the school," he said.

In addition to Manokwari City, the Manokwari Regency Government will also conduct studies on SMA and SMK in the Warmare, Prafi, Masni, and Sidey (Warpramasi) Districts to be used as superior schools with dormitories to be improved.

"All of these programs were carried out as part of the Manokwari Regency Government's efforts to improve the quality of education implementation in Manokwari Regency without neglecting the responsibility of the local government on the development of other schools, both junior high and high schools," he said.
