BSI Says It Will Support the Islamic Economic Ecosystem of up to IDR 4.56 Quadrillion
JAKARTA - PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk or BSI (BRIS) stated that it would continue to support the Islamic economic ecosystem, such as the halal industry, philanthropic activities through zakat and waqf, as well as organizing Hajj and Umrah with a value of up to 300 billion US dollars or IDR 4,559 trillion, equivalent to IDR 4.56 quadrillion (exchange rate of IDR 15,198 per US dollar).
BSI Main Director Hery Gunardi said, currently BSI already has assets with a value of around IDR 306 trillion and serves 19 million customers, but according to Hery, there are a total of 230 million Muslim communities in Indonesia that can be served by BSI.
"We believe that there are still many business opportunities that can be supported by BSI, for example around US$300 billion in the Islamic ecosystem, such as the halal industry, philanthropic activities, and Umrah and Hajj", he said at the 2023 Global Islamic Finance Summit (GIFS) at the Ritz Karlton, Jakarta, Wednesday.
BSI has also become the largest corporate zakat distributor in Indonesia with a value reaching IDR 141 billion.
Hery is optimistic that the Islamic finance industry will continue to grow supported by the positive performance achievements of Islamic banks which are experiencing an upward trend as well as appropriate policies from regulators and increasing confidence in business people in the country.

BSI GIFS 2023 is the largest international sharia economic discussion event in Indonesia which involves sharia financial industry players ranging from educational practitioners, sharia finance practitioners, business actors, and authorities.
"We discussed the development of the Islamic economy in Asia and the country, exchanged ideas on how Islamic economic practices can drive the economy and of course, the Islamic economy can become a sustainable instrument", he said.
