Medan City Government Prepares IDR 400 Billion To Build 2 Underpasses This Year

JAKARTA - The Medan City Government has budgeted IDR 400 billion to build two underpasses or underground roads in Medan City, North Sumatra, in 2023.

Head of the Medan City Water Resources, Highways, and Construction Services Office, Topan Obaja Putra Ginting in Medan, North Sumatra, Monday, January 23, admitted that the results of the underpass feasibility study cost IDR 200 billion each.

"From the feasibility study there is already a picture, that at one point we need around IDR 200 billion," he said, quoted from Antara.

He admitted that while the detailed budget for the construction of the two underpasses had not been obtained by his side, because the detailed engineering design (DED) had not been completed.

It is known that the positions of the two underpass construction sites are at HM Yamin Street, the intersection of Jawa Street, and Juanda Street, the intersection of Brigjen Katamso Street.

"With this underpass, it is hoped that it can unravel congestion in the two areas," he said.

His party also said that the construction of the two underpasses uses a multi-year financing scheme or multi-year contracts, namely the 2023 and 2024 Medan City Regional Budget.

While the process of auctioning the underpass work is scheduled to begin in April this year.

He said the decision to build the two underpasses was through a comprehensive study according to traffic and planning at the Medan City Bappeda.

From the study of traffic and planning at the Bappeda of Medan City, it is stated that currently it is necessary to deal with the problem of congestion in the capital city of North Sumatra Province.

"We have explained to the Mayor of Medan that several road sections in Medan need handling, and the appropriate handling is to make underpasses," said Topan.
