Crystal Palace Makes Manchester United Back On Earth
JAKARTA - Manchester United failed to continue their positive trend. The club nicknamed the Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace in the English Premier League match, at Sellhurst Park Stadium on Thursday, January 19, early morning WIB.
This result broke MU's winning streak. Previously, Harry Maguire and his friends won nine consecutive matches in all official competitions.
MU actually took the lead thanks to Bruno Fernandes' goal a few minutes before half-time. However, just before the match ended, the hosts managed to equalize thanks to Michael Olise's goal.
These results made Manchester United fail to shift their city rivals Manchester City in second place. The Red Devils are currently in third place on points with City on 39 points, but lost on goal difference.
"We dropped two points. When you win with two minutes to go you don't expect to drop points. We had to invest a lot more to get the second goal," United manager Erik ten Hag told the BBC.
"We were 1-0 up. In the second half, we had a lot of space to kill them and go for the second goal. But I never saw us really going for the second goal. It's hard to say (why). I have to criticize my team," he added.
After Palace, MU will face tough opponents. They will travel to Arsenal headquarters, next weekend.
Ten Hag asked his team to forget the failure at home to Palace. He said, what has happened can not be repeated.
"The players have to make sure they are ready for that game (against Arsenal) because it is a top class game and it is fantastic to play a game like that, so we are looking forward to it," said Ten Hag.
