Not Only Banning Guns And Tear Gas, Police Secure The AFF Cup From Outside The Stadium
JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the police officers who were deployed to protect the 2022 AFF Cup would not be in the stadium. The police are just standing by outside.
"Inside of course there are only stewards, police outside", said Sigit at Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Tuesday, December 20.
The police personnel can enter the stadium area as long as there is a direct request from the organizers. If not, they will remain on guard in the designated stadium area.
"The police can enter if there is a request from the organizers, the security inspector", said the National Police Chief.
The mechanism, continued Sigit, is based on a new police regulation (perpol) that has been drafted together with several related ministries.
Shortly, there will be trials to maximize the rule.
"We convey that we will carry out trials related to our new Perpol where this Perpol is jointly drafted with the Ministry of Youth and Sports the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Ministry of Health, and the relevant Ministries and of course we also ask for assistance related to the implementation process", said the National Police Chief.

Sigit previously said police officers involved in securing any sporting event, including the 2022 AFF Cup, were prohibited from carrying firearms and tear gas.
"You can't use tear gas, you can't carry firearms. So these are future improvements so that both the safety of spectators and organizers are well guaranteed", said the National Police Chief.
