Mendikbudristek Nadiem Targets 600,000 Honorary Teachers To Become PPK

PONTIANAK - Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Anwar Makarim emphasized the Government's commitment to the welfare of teachers, including targeting 600 thousand honorary teachers to become first aid workers in 2023.

"We also hope that all honorary teachers can immediately become State Civil Apparatus Government Employees with Work Agreements (ASN PPPK) in 2023. Last year there were around 300 thousand honorary teachers who became PPPK and this year, thank God, more and more local governments are eager to support, so we got around 319 thousand formations," said Nadiem during a working visit in Sanggau, West Kalimantan, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 25.

Thus, he hopes that next year there will be around 600 thousand honorary teachers who become PPK from the largest recruitment in history. We will continue to do this until we meet the needs of teachers in Indonesia.

However, Nadiem also emphasized that what is needed is support from the local government to submit the proposed formation.

"The honorary teacher will become a PPPK ASN if the regional government (Pemda) permits the formation of the proposal from the region," he said.

For this reason, the Ministry of Education and Culture continues to work closely with the Regional Government and the Ministry of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform (Kemenpanrb) so that honorary teachers can become PPPK ASN, explained the Minister of Education and Technology.

So far, the Ministry of Education and Culture, said Nadiem, has continued to push for changes to the rules for selecting ASN PPPK teachers. This is an effort to accommodate input from honorary teachers, so that they can present an increasingly fair selection.

"Now, we prioritize honorary teachers in public schools to be appointed at the schools where they have served so far," he said.

Previously, responding to the problem of PPPK in Pontianak City, the Mayor of Pontianak, Edi Rusdi Kamtono said that one of the causes of teacher shortages in his area was the existence of teachers who entered retirement every year. Therefore, the Pontianak City Government has taken several strategic steps.

"This year we have recruited 456 PPPKs, in addition there are workers that we recruit with salaries from Regional Operational Assistance (BOSDA) worth the Regional Minimum Wage (UMR) which is IDR 2,750,000 per month," said Edi.

Meanwhile, the acting Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel (Plt. Dirjen GTK), Nunuk Suryani added that the formation of ASN PPPK for Education Personnel has been proposed for 2023.

"We are trying next year to propose the formation of ASN PPPK for educational staff. After we coordinate with the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, the education staff that can be proposed are those who have functional positions such as librarians, reports, laboratory heads," said Nunuk Suryani.
