Three Eddie Van Halen Guitars Sell For $ 422,000 At Auction
JAKARTA - Three guitars that once belonged to the late Eddie Van Halen were sold for a combined price of $ 422,000 at a recent auction.
The three instruments are being sold as part of the Icons & Idols Trilogy: Rock 'n' Roll Auction held by Julien's Auctions on Tuesday and Wednesday (December 1 and 2).
Nearly 900 items are offered in a lineup of musical artifacts and memorabilia, including items once owned by Kurt Cobain, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Little Richard, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, and many more.
Eddie Van Halen's custom "Frankenstrat" kramer, created with guitar technician Matt Bruck in the guitarist's home studio, became the highest-grossing auction, selling for $ 231,250.
The rock legend's 2004 EVH Charvel Art Series guitar sells for $ 140,800, while the iconic red, black and white striped guitar from Van Halen's Hot for Teacher video sells for $ 50,000.
Other bestsellers from the auction include two destroyed Fender Kurt Cobain guitars, selling for a combined price of $ 281,600. While Bob Marley's first guitar made 153,600 dollars
Earlier this year, Kurt Cobain's legendary guitar worn during an appearance on MTV Unplugged broke the record for the most expensive guitar ever sold, for $ 6.01 million at auction.
The winner - out of a total of just seven bids - was Peter Freedman, an Australian businessman and founder of Røde Microphones.
Cobain's green cardigan of the same appearance also broke last year's record when it sold for $ 334,000.
Meanwhile, Jimi Hendrix's If 6 Was 9 demo song played by Eddie Van Halen has just been discovered. The song, which is on the album Axis: Bold As Love, was remade by keyboardist David Garfield, and appears on his new EP (mini album) Guitar Heros OTB, Vol. 1.
