Snapchat's Family Center Feature is Coming to India Now

JAKARTA - Snap Inc., the developer of the Snapchat app, added a parental control feature to Indian users after debuting last month in the US.

The feature, called Family Center, was first launched in August, which allows parents or guardians to keep tabs on who their teens are messaging with on the app without revealing what they're saying to each other.

To use this feature, a parent or guardian will need to install the Snapchat app on their device and link their account to their teen's account using the opt-in invitation process to use the new feature.

After that, the guardian can view their child's entire list of friends and the list of accounts they have interacted with over the past seven days and report about the account to the Snap Trust and Safety Team.

Snapchat's parental controls feature is intended for parents or guardians of teens between the ages of 13–18, as Snapchat is not intended for use by younger people.

Snap also said that it is working with local non-profit organization FXB India Suraksha and CyberPeace Foundation to launch the Family Center feature in India.

Over the coming months, Snap said it plans to bring new features to Family Center, including new content controls for parents. Teens can also notify their parents when they report accounts or content to the platform.

However, Snapchat's parenting features aren't that extensive, when compared to Instagram and TikTok.

Family Center doesn't allow parents or guardians to restrict their teens from using the app after a certain amount of time like rival apps.
