KPK: The Higher Revenue Of A State, Corruption And Money Laundering Will Be Adapted

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri said that the richer a country is, the more people adapt to corruption and money laundering.

This was conveyed by Firli at the Regional Anti-Corruption Conference for Law Enforcement Professionals in Southeast Asia. The international activity was held in Bangkok, Thailand.

"Several studies show that the types of patterns and perpetrators of corruption adapt to social, political, and economic developments", said Firli, quoted from his written statement, Monday, August 29.

"The higher the income of a country, the more corruption and money laundering will adapt", he continued.

Firli said corruption is a crime that keeps moving. The progress of the times and technology can make the mode of corruption even more massive.

"Corruption is a moving target that develops following the progress of the times and technology", he said.

Firli said fighting corruption cannot be done by each country. Cooperation such as the exchange of data and information must be carried out to catch the corruptors.

"Cooperation in exchanging intelligence and pro-justice data and information as well as parallel investigations and opening communication channels between institutions is the key to the success of these efforts", he stressed.

He said this exchange of information and data should take place. "The moral message is that only through cooperation with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) can we succeed in recovering assets belonging to the people of the Republic of Indonesia", said Firli.
