Hendra/Ahsan Was Under Pressure, But The Decision To Change The Pattern Of The Game Became A Savior
JAKARTA - The senior pair Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan stepped into the quarter-finals of the 2022 BWF World Championship. However, the ticket did not come easily.
The pair Mark Lamfuss / Marvin Seidel were able to provide fierce resistance. Despite winning two straight games, the score was so tight that it was 21-18 and 23-21.
Hendra admitted that they were under pressure against Lamfuss/Seidel. However, the strategy to change the style of the game pattern plays an important role.
"We did change the pattern of the game in the middle of the match. That's what allowed us to get out of pressure," Hendra said in a written statement quoted by Antara.
"If you keep playing drive, you obviously lose, so we try to vary the drive and placement. The opponent played neatly. They didn't hit hard, but the ball went down so we tried to play net first." he continued.
Ahsan also agreed that the match against Lamfuss/Seidel was tough because the opponent's performance was so good. He said he was quite depressed but managed to get up.
"We continue to look for ways to get points," said Ahsan.
Hendra/Ahsan, together with Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, are now Indonesia's mainstays in winning the men's doubles title at the 2022 BWF World Championships. Because Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon have been eliminated.
The Minions surprisingly lost to the British pair in the last 16 of the 2022 BWF World Championships.
