Aceh DPR Discussing Qanun On Legalization Of Marijuana For Medical

BANDA ACEH - Commission V Health Sector of the Aceh House of Representatives (DPRA) is discussing the making of a qanun (regional regulation) regarding the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes.

"It is imperative for Aceh to conduct a study and this will of course give birth to a regulation, of course, because we are talking about Aceh is a qanun," said Chairman of Commission V DPRA M Rizal Falevi Kirani, in Banda Aceh as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 24.

Falevi said that recently the Ministry of Health has issued Number 16 of 2022 concerning Procedures for the Implementation of the Production and/or Use of Narcotics for the Interests of the Development of Science and Technology.

The candy, said Falevi, became the basis for his party to conduct a more comprehensive study of the plan to legalize marijuana for health purposes.

"I think because Aceh has a very comprehensive cannabis literature, and also has the best quality, of course it is important to study it to create a regulation," he said.

Falevi said that the Aceh government had to take advantage of this opportunity by legalizing it. Moreover, at this time there are still many countries that cannot grow quality cannabis plants like in Aceh.

Therefore, it is necessary to regulate what mechanisms and procedures are prohibited and allowed. So that later the plant is actually used for medical purposes.

"This is also one of the future prospects for increasing Aceh's PAD (original income) because this will become an export item for foreign countries," he said.

Falevi said that currently his party and other elements continue to analyze in detail the positives and negatives of implementing the qanun later.

In the near future, continued Falevi, Commission V of the DPRA will immediately summon experts to review the regulations, and also involve various elements, both health people and the research team.

In literature, added Falevi, cannabis plants are not foreign and taboo for the people of Aceh. It's just how it is then packaged in regulation so as not to violate state rules.

"This is where the government comes to regulate it, so that the people are not blamed. Of course in accordance with the provisions and applicable laws," said Falevi Kirani.
