Minister Of Home Affairs Reminds Central-Regional Cooperation To Overcome Inflation Rate: Regional Heads Unable To Maintain, Weak Leadership

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian reminded the central government and regional governments to work together in overcoming the inflation rate.

"That's why we need the central and regional governments together to keep inflation under control," said Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 23.

According to the Minister of Home Affairs, the current semi-decentralized system requires strong cooperation between the center and the regions in dealing with basic problems, including inflation. The reason, he said, was that inflation would have a serious impact on the region.

"The impact of inflation will not only affect the central government, but also all regional governments, including (on) the ability, reputation, and electability of regional heads. Regions that are unable to maintain inflation show that leadership is weak," said the Minister of Home Affairs.

Currently, the central government is working hard to control the rate of inflation, one of which is by not printing money on a large scale.

In addition, the government also continues to keep interest rates under control, and seeks to find cheap sources of energy and food. These efforts are expected to meet the energy and food needs of the community.

The Minister of Home Affairs asked the regions to try not to increase the price of goods and services in a short time. Because, it is considered to be a burden on society and cause social unrest.

Moreover, said the Minister of Home Affairs, the current political situation is getting closer to the general election and simultaneous regional head elections which will be held in 2024.

If there is a rapid price increase, according to the Minister of Home Affairs, the people who will be held accountable are the central and regional governments.

Therefore, the local government and other parties must work together to overcome these challenges. Local governments can carry out these efforts in accordance with their affairs and authorities.

"For example, for issues of energy, oil, fuel, and others. The regional government can create a system in collaboration with existing stakeholders. The regional inflation control team also involves supervisory officials, to ensure that energy is truly targeted at people who really need it," he said. need," he said.
