Financial Inclusion Is Increasingly Touching The Young Generation, 76 Million Students Have Accounts In Banks Worth IDR 27 Trillion

JAKARTA - Member of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) for Education and Consumer Protection Friderica Widyasari Dewi said as many as 76 million students in Indonesia already have bank accounts.

"Currently, around 76 percent of students already have accounts or around 76 million students have accounts with a value of Rp. 27 trillion," he said in the Peak Pursuit of Achievement for the Young Generation (Kreasimuda) webinar quoted by Antara, Tuesday, August 23.

Meanwhile, OJK organizes the Kreasimuda Indonesia Program to encourage every student under the age of 18 to have at least one savings account at a bank.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, who was present at the event, said that the activities involving students from elementary school to university levels were carried out to increase student financial inclusion.

"This financial inclusion activity is important to involve students because if it involves students, it means that their parents are involved as the child's pocket money provider," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto.

In the future, he said he would increase student financial inclusion by encouraging students to have savings accounts that could increase economic resilience.

Meanwhile, based on the national survey of financial literacy and inclusion, the level of financial inclusion in Indonesia has reached 76.19 percent in 2019 and will continue to be increased.

"We look at OJK data, people's savings increase every year during COVID-19 by around 10 percent. This is a strength that increases banking liquidity," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto.
