Tofu Factory In Asahan North Sumatra Explodes, 7 People Taken To Hospital
MEDAN - The tofu factory in Hamlet V, Bunut Seberang Village, Pulo Bandring District, Asahan Regency, North Sumatra, exploded. The entire contents of the factory were destroyed.
In addition, 7 houses in the vicinity of the factory were also damaged. An eyewitness said the boom of the factory explosion could even be heard as far as 1 kilometer.
The factory is known to belong to a resident named Sapari and has been operating for more than 30 years. The factory employs about 20 workers.
One of the factory workers said the explosion occurred when his colleagues had just entered the factory and were about to start work. The source of the explosion is thought to have come from a large steam boiler in the factory.
"The steam boiler exploded. Not all workers have arrived. We are still ready to work", he said, Tuesday, August 2.
Meanwhile, the head of hamlet V of Bunut Seberang Village, Dinar explained. They have received reports of damaged houses.
"The reports that we have collected are 7 damaged houses. Consisting of 6 lightly damaged houses, 1 heavily damaged house", said Dinar.

He said, apart from destroying the entire factory contents, 7 workers were also victims and were rushed to the hospital.
The victims who were taken to the hospital and suffered injuries were Rian (25), Nurhayati (26), Ramadi (22), Khaidir (24), Bagus (20), and Zulkarnain (23). Another person named Ida (42) is being treated at home.
"If it was Rian, the information was immediately referred to Medan. He was pretty bad because maybe the time of the incident was close to the engine that exploded", he added.
