Erupted 4 Times, Mount Raung’s Status Is Now Level 1
SURABAYA - The East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said Mount Raung had erupted four times on Wednesday, July 27 night. Three surrounding areas, such as Banyuwangi, Bondowoso, and Jember, are said to have been affected by the ash rain.
"There were no casualties or damage. So far, the only impact has been ash rain around the slopes of Mount Raung," said the Head of Emergency and Logistics of the East Java BPBD, Sriyono, confirmed on Thursday, July 28.
Despite the eruption, Sriyono said the condition of Mount Raung was still relatively safe. Currently, he said, the East Java BPBD continues to coordinate with the Mount Raung Volcano Observation Post Officer (PPGA). And Pusdalops BPBD Banyuwangi Regency, and Pusdalops BPBD Bondowoso Regency.
"People's activities are still running normally. The status of Mount Raung is still active at Level 1," he said.
Sriyono said that his party is currently monitoring the activity of the mountain. The goal is to ensure that the surrounding area is safe, namely Banyuwangi, Bondowoso, and Jember Regencies.

Based on observations from the East Java BPBD from Bondowoso, this 3.332-meter-high mountain has erupted four times on Wednesday, July 27. When it erupted, Mount Raung spewed ash with a column height of 1.500 meters above its peak.
"During four eruptions, there was ash rain with a column height of 1.500 meters leading to the northwest slope of Mount Raung," he said.
