Volkswagen Confirms Cheaper ID.4 EV Model Is Coming In 2023

JAKARTA - Volkswagen confirmed on Monday, July 18, that a cheaper SUV version of the ID.4 crossover is on its way to launch.

The cheaper ID.4 will be powered by a 62 kWh battery, a decrease when compared to the currently offered ID.4 with an 82 kWh battery, which has an EPA range of 275 miles.

With a smaller battery option, this will also significantly reduce the price of the ID.4 which should be less than $42.000. There is no definite price for the latest version of this EV. But it is estimated to be priced at USD 30.000 (IDR 449 million).

"More details regarding the locally produced MY23 ID.4 EV will be announced soon," Volkswagen said in a statement, quoted by CNet.

Citing The Drive, in Europe, the ID.4 is already offered with a lower battery of 55 kWh with an EPA range of 215 miles. The car also offers a significantly lowered powertrain compared to the ID.4 models in the US.

VW has not announced further details regarding the exact layout of the drivetrain on the latest entry model ID.4 for the United States.

What is certain, however, is that the lower version will be assembled at VW's factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and will be built starting in 2023.

At the same time, VW noted that they will still be giving away some treats, namely the MK8 GTI which will get a special 40th anniversary edition, and the Golf R which will receive a special 20th anniversary trim.
