Classic Car In Back To The Future, DeLorean Coming Soon With All-Electric Version

JAKARTA - The DeLorean Motor Company has revealed the first images of the Alpha 5 electric vehicle (EV). This car is their attempt to revive their DeLorean name in an all-electric form.

They've also stayed true to the '80s classic DeLorean known for its appearance in Back to the Future, the Alpha 5 comes with the iconic gulf wing door and can hit 60mph in about 2.99 seconds (or 88mph in 4.35 seconds).

It should be noted that the company behind the Alpha 5 is not actually the same as the original DeLorean vehicles as the company itself closed in 1982. However, an unrelated Texas-based company, which supplies replacement parts to its owners has usurped the vintage DeLorean, usurping the rights. the DeLorean brand and teased a revival with all-electric vehicles in April.

The Alpha 5 comes with a 100kWh battery, which offers an estimated range of 300 miles (482 km) on a single charge and a top speed of 155mph (250 km/h). DeLorean suggests these specs will belong to the "base" performance model, but there's no word on any other possible performance or price levels.

While the Alpha 5 does hint at the legacy of its gas-powered predecessor with its gull-wing doors and angled design, they swapped the corner look for smoother curves and four seats instead of two.

Despite some obvious differences, DeLorean partnered with Italdesign, the same Volkswagen-owned design team that helped develop the 1981 DMC-12's look, and the electrified version takes it into the future.

DeLorean plans to showcase the Alpha 5 to the public on its website, but you can sign up to see pictures and specs right now. The public will have to wait a little longer to see this car in action, as the new DeLorean will reveal the Alpha 5 live at Pebble Beach on August 21.
