English Premier League Champions Decided On Last Week After Liverpool Beat Southampton
JAKARTA - Liverpool confirmed that the race for the English Premier League title this season was determined on the last day of the match. This is thanks to a 2-1 victory over Southampton at St Mary's Stadium, Thursday, May 18 early morning of GMT+7 (Indonesian Time).
Had left behind Nathan Redmond's goal when the game had only been running for 13 minutes, Liverpool then rose. The Reds equalized through Takumi Minamino's goal in the 27th minute.
Liverpool finally won narrowly after Joel Matip scored in the second half of the match.
This was Liverpool's eighth win from their last nine league games against Southampton. Moreover, they always score at least two goals in every win, the exception being the 0-1 loss in the same match last season.
The result against Southampton also makes Liverpool the only team that has not lost a Premier League game in 2022. In 18 matches they have won 15 and drawn 3 times.
In the match against Southampton, Klopp decided to make changes to the nine players who started in the victory against Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
The changes include getting James Milner and Harvey Elliott into their first start for Liverpool. Milner made his Premier League debut in November 2002 or 145 days before Elliott was born.

This victory keeps Liverpool on track for the title hunt with one game remaining. Now the club from Merseyside sits in second place in the standings with a collection of 89 points.
Meanwhile, City occupies the top position with a one-point advantage. This means that the determination of the English highest caste title will depend on the results obtained by the two teams in their last match on Sunday, May 22.
Liverpool will have their home game at Anfield against Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Manchester City host Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.
"We have to win our game first, it's not like we talk about Wolves as if they weren't there. We will focus 100 percent," Klopp told the club's official website.
"I think if we win, it's deserved. However, for that we have to win and then see the situation," he continued.
